'I'm not just a big game player' - Mngomeni

While the skilful midfielder was not named in the Bafana Bafana squad to do duty in Ghana, some impressive performances this season, especially against the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, have seen Mngomeni tipped for a place in the 2010 World Cup squad, should he continue to fulfill his doubtless potential.

However, his dazzling displays against the Brazilians and the Amakhosi have come at a price, with some soccer analysts suggesting that Mngomeni only rises to the occasion against the so-called big names of South African soccer.

“This is not the case; I always put in 100 percent in every game I play for Santos. I think this perception only exists because there is more focus on the games against the so-called big teams – often the matches against the ‘smaller teams’ are not even televised,” Mngomeni tells snl24.com/kickoff.

While he has put in a number of eye-catching performances, Mngomeni says that there are no particular moments that stand out for him this season.

“With the team having struggled for most of the season, there have not been too many highlights for me. Now that things are going better, we need to find some consistency and keep working hard,” he adds.

The Gugulethu-based ball-wizard also discloses to that he will be taking a short break, planning to visit Mozambique with his girlfriend and some friends.
