“The RFEF has designated a new national coach - Julen Lopetegui,” read a statement released by the Spanish FA.
“The technician will be presented today, Thursday 21 , at 18:30 in La Ciudad del Fútbol.”
Lopetegui, 49, played as goalkeeper for a host of clubs including Rayo Vallecano and Logrones, before becoming a manager in 2003.
He has worked with a number of Spanish national youth teams at Under-17, U-19, U-20 and U-21 level where he won the 2013 U-21 European Championships, and was last at the helm of Portuguese giants FC Porto.
Lopetegui replaces decorated manager Vicente del Bosque, who left his post following La Furia Roja’s Last 16 Euro 2016 exit.
