Juventus Chief defends Cristiano Ronaldo no show & claims he deserved UEFA Best Player award

Ronaldo, 33, was a notable absentee at the awards ceremony held in Monaco on Thursday evening, where he was snubbed for the Best Player award to former Real Madrid team-mate Luka Modric.

Despite winning the best forward title for his 15 goals in 10 games en route to their third consecutive Champions League final - the Portugal captain was said to be livid about the Modric situation.

However, Juve Moratta has now backed the club record signing, despite the recent media criticism, who claims he's absence was motivated by his expected snub.

"From our side, we are very disappointed about this decision [to award Modric].

"I say this as a director since this award is for the Champions League and not the World Cup, and Ronaldo gifted some great emotions in this competition.

"I don't take anything away from the decision of the journalists and coaches, but I would have voted Ronaldo.

"The fact he did not come is a decision that has to be respected. It was a personal choice and nothing to do with the decision [to award Modric]."
