Kapini has been the regular the first choice goalkeeper in the Warriors squad for the past two years.
“I had personal problems to sort out and that is why I am still in Johannesburg. It would not have made no sense not to sort out these first before going anywhere,” says Kapini without elaborating what the problems were.
The Warriors technical team was left with no option but drop Kapini after he failed to report for camp by Tuesday; however, they stated that he could be considered for their next game at home against Namibia.
“I am travelling home on Sunday, so should the national team coaches call me again for the other games I will be available as I am still interested in playing for the national team.”
Kapini was due to do battle with BidVest Wits-bound goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro for the number one jersey.
With Kapini absent, Washington Arubi of Highlanders, who could also be playing in South Africa in the new season, has been preferred.
The Warriors’ new Brazilian coach Valinhos has used Murambadoro in the friendly games since taking over three months ago.
The 23-year-old Kapini has just completed a season in which he has had to watch from the bench as Wayne Sandilands played the majority of games at Stars.
The limited game time that Kapini has had at Stars could have led to a sense of frustration for the keeper who had played regularly at Highlanders in the last six years prior to joining Stars in 2006.
