Mbappe, 20, joined Paris Saint-Germain on loan in the 2017/18 off-season and eventually signed a permanent deal at the end of that campaign as the second highest football transfer in history when they forked out €180m to prise him away from AS Monaco.

After winning the domestic treble and the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the talented attacker, who earned a podium finish at the 2019 Ballon d'Or awards behind Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo - has continued his incredible rise within the elite level football.

  • No player across the top five European leagues has scored more non-penalty goals than Mbappe this season.

And Mourinho believes his consistency and current level of performance, which sees him competing with Messi for the Golden Shoe this season - makes him more valuable than the legendary attackers.

"For a player like Mbappe, when you speak about the future, you don't need to say what he's going to be like in five years' time, in 10 years' time. Just focus on now. He's absolutely incredible," he told beIN Sports, as per Bleacher Report.

"I think going by his age and [and considering] the age of Cristiano, of Messi, [both] over 30, Neymar is 27... when you go to the market level and age is also a factor, I think he's the most valuable player in the world.

"In a hypothetical transfer, he's the most expensive player in football now. In terms of his qualities, [he is] unbelievable. One word is enough. It means everything."

Mbappe has scored a staggering 30 goals and registered 15 assists in 34 games across all competitions.
