Last-ditch effort to avert WC strike


NUM which represents about 20% of the 1 200 construction workers on site said they are deadlocked with management over bonuses, back pay and safety issues.

This after the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration previously issued a certificate of non-resolution.

The unions are demanding project bonuses of R1500 a month for each worker.

In September, a labour dispute also delayed Cape Town’s 2010 Green Point Stadium which, like Durban, is expected to host a World Cup semifinal.
