Ligue 1 match report Paris Saint-Germain v Olympique Lyon 07 October 2018

PSG wasted no time to go in front after Anthony Lopez tripped Kylian Mbappe inside the box. Neymar stepped up to give them a ninth minute lead.

In for his first league start, Gianluigi Buffon pulled off a fantastic save from Memphis Depay’s free-kick a few minutes later.

Lyon didn’t stop there and Bertrand Traore’s free-kick from outside the box just shaded the post at the midway stage.

PSG were down to 10-men after Presnel Kimpembe’s challenge was overturned after consultation with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) after initially getting only a yellow card on 34 minutes.

Edison Cavani was replaced after five minutes by Thilo Kehrer. Lyon were also handed a red after Tousart received his second yellow for a foul on Mbappe.

With both sides reduced, the second half didn’t take long to hit the note after Mbappe found space alone in front of goal but couldn’t get the better of Anthony Lopes.

The post came to the rescue of the host after Thiago Silva’s clearance deflected off Maxwel Cornet and onto the woodwork, while Mbappe launched an attack on the rebound to hit the post too.

The French World Cup winner ensured the two-goal cushion on 61 minutes with an expertly good finish.

He completed the double shortly after tapping in from just inside the box after Lyon failed to clear their defensive lines.

The teen sensation completed his hat-trick with a cool finish on 69 minutes after poor defending once again.

The Mbappe show wasn’t over and the latter registered his fourth towards the final minutes after another comfortable strike.

The post came to their rescue once again when Depay’s chip shot cracking the crossbar after 81 minutes.

The final effort saw Neymar edging closer to his brace with a wonderful acrobatic overhead kick but missed the target.
