Mahlangu’s move from United has been on the horizon for the greater part of this season after being elbowed to the bench with Shane Poggenpoel and Letladi Madubanya taking control in midfield.

The dreadlocked midfielder’s new contract with the Students comes into effect on July 1, just after the expiry of his deal with the Tshwane side that he has served with distinction since arriving from the Kaizer Chiefs juniors.

“Sibusiso signed for three years, although his deal comes into effect next season after the expiry of his contract at Supersport,” says Ivica Stankovic, the player’s agent.

“After seven years at Supersport, he saw fit that he move to a new challenge. We also felt that it would be an appropriate for him to move to Wits because they came in as the strongest bidders for the player. Sibusiso believes that he will work well with the coach Roger De Sa and perform to his best under him.

“Also influencing Mahlangu’s decision to move was the success that his close friend Richard Rantjie has enjoyed since also moving to Wits from Supersport. Sibusiso will be making his move as a free agent since his contract will have expired,” says Stankovic.

Mahlangu’s signing comes just days after Wits also lured another player from Tshwane, Zambian sensation Clifford Mulenga, who currently does duty for University of Pretoria in the National First Division.

The 25-year-old Mahlangu could be making his move to Milpark with a league winners’ medal if United win the Premiership title.
