The Swede suffered the blow during the Red Devils’ 2-1 victory over Anderlecht in the second-leg of their Europa League quarter-final on Thursday, a result which saw United progress to the last four with a 3-2 aggregate win.

However, their progress to the semi-finals has seemingly come at a huge cost, with the side’s top scorer this season expected to miss the remainder of the campaign.

United coach Jose Mourinho admitted after the game he was "not optimistic" about Ibrahimovic, who has scored 17 goals in the top-flight this term to spearhead the side’s push for a top-four finish and Champions League qualification.

Ibrahimovic made the move to Old Trafford as a free agent at the beginning of the season after leaving Paris Saint-Germain and has already lifted two trophies with United after scoring the winning goals in the Community Shield and the League Cup final.
