Middendorp back in SA before Christmas

The German mentor, who was fired from the Bundesliga outfit Armenia Bielefeld yesterday, revealed this exclusively to KickOff.com today.

Middendorp says he is hoping to secure a contract with a PSL club in the New Year. He adds, however, that he has not been approached by any clubs yet, as the news of his job in Germany only broke yesterday.

“There have been no discussions yet. This only happened yesterday, but I can say that I had a chat with two clubs in March, but I was contracted at the time.

“In actual fact, I am still contracted and Bielefeld must still pay out the rest of my contract, which is much more than R1 million. Much more!”

Middendorp said he will be returning to South Africa before Christmas.

“I will be in South Africa on 22 December for two weeks. Definitely I would coach in South Africa again. It’s my home. I still own a flat in South Africa.

“This issue with Armenia Bielefeld will, hopefully, be sorted out this week and then I will be looking for a new club, probably to start in the New Year.”

Middendorp declined to answer whether he had been in contact with Mamelodi Sundowns or Platinum Stars, who have the funding to afford a coach of Middendorp’s calibre, but have not been playing up to their potential of late.

Speculation is that that if the Brazilians fail against Ajax Cape Town in the Mother City tomorrow, coach Gordon Igesund’s job will be on the line.

The Tycoons, who are scheduled to participate in the CAF Champions League next year, are currently struggling at the bottom of the table and instead of looking forward to spreading their brand throughout Africa, are staring at relegation instead.
