Free State Stars assistant coach Sammy Troughton said both Modise and Khune have been in superb form this season, but it is difficult to come up with the ultimate winner between the two players.

“Teko Modise has done well despite Pirates struggling almost the whole season. He has also done well with the national team.

“Khune has had a great season with Kaizer Chiefs and has been a revelation this season. It’s difficult to pick a winner between the two players, but I think Teko will go very close.”

Whilst Kosta Papic and Ted Dumitru have made different choices between Khune and Modise, AmaZulu coach Clive Barker says the Absa Premiership Player of the Season should come from Supersport United or Ajax Cape Town.

“The Player of the Season should come from those two teams at the top of the log. [Brett] Evans, Bryce Moon and the Brazilian defender Eduardo [Ferreira] have done well for Ajax Cape Town this season, whilst Daine Klate for me was one of the best players at Supersport United this season.”

Whilst Papic has gone for Teko Modise, Dumitru has settled for Itumeleng Khune.

“It’s difficult to come up with the Player of the Season as there is no player who has been consistent, but I will go for the goalkeeper. Khune has saved Chiefs six or seven times this season and, in my opinion, deserves to be Player of the Season,” Dumitru said.

Dumitru has also picked Free State Stars coach Kinnah Phiri as deserving the Coach of the Season award.

“Looking at Free State Stars’ performance, Kinnah Phiri deserves credit for an outstanding job with the team. I will go for him as coach of the season,” Dumitru added.
