Modise relishing captaincy

Modise was given the honour by new Bucs coach Owen da Gama just four months after the Bafana Bafana star joined the club from Supersport United.

“Even though I was captain of City Pillars before, nothing comes close to being captain of a big team like Orlando Pirates,” he tells Kick Off. “It was a great honour for me and I’m happy that in my first game as Bucs captain we won.

“But it was a tough match. Cosmos are a physical side and it was difficult to play our normal game. At the end of the match I was happy that we managed to get the maximum points. We are still in a rebuilding phase at Pirates, but based on our performances recently, a lot of positive things are coming soon.”

Meanwhile, Pirates communications manager Mickey Modisane says they are still waiting for a medical report on the injuries suffered by midfielder Bennett Chenene and defender Innocent Mdledle against Cosmos.

“The tackle on Mdledle was uncalled for and was done deliberately in front of the referee, who failed to give the player a straight red card,” Modisane says in anger. “I am still waiting to hear from our medical team to find out the extent of both players’ injuries.”
