Polokwane sink Rovers to cement top spot

Polokwane City 3-1 Platinum City Rovers

Polokwane City defeated Platinum City Rovers 3-1 to cement top spot in the Motsepe Foundation Championship on Wednesday afternoon.

Rise and Shine raced into a two-goal lead in the first half thanks to strikes from Puleng Marema and Mokibelo Ramabu.

Rovers did pull a goal back in the second half, but there was to be no comeback as Lebohang Nkaki grabbed a third goal for Rise and Shine.

Venda Football Academy 1-1 Uthongathi

Venda Football Academy and Uthongathi could not be separated after playing to a 1-1 draw at Thohoyandou Stadium.

The hosts got the early goal through Maboke Makhubela inside two minutes, before they were down to ten men in the 11th minute after Nhlanhla Makhubele was given his marching orders.

The away side took advantage of the numbers game and scored what proved to be the final goal of the game through Tshepo Liphoko just before the break.

Pretoria Callies 2-0 Magesi FC

Pretoria Callies gave their survival hopes a boost after defeating Magesi FC 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

Callies remain bottom of the standings but are now just a point adritf of Venda Football Acamedy and Black Leopards.

Hungry Lions 1-0 NB La Masia

Hungry Lions remain in the hunt for promotion following their 1-0 triumph over NB La Masia.

The game was seemingly headed for a draw until Stanley Muishond popped up with the winning goal for the hosts in second-half stoppage time.

As a result, Lions have climbed to third spot on the standings while La Masia find themselves in 13th position.

Casric Stars FC 1-0 Cape Town Spurs

Casric Stars kept with Motsepe Foundation Champions leaders after defeating Cape Town Spurs 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

Thabang Rakwena got the game's only goal in the first half, taking his tally to two goals for the league campaign.

The win sees stars remain in second spot, one point behind Polokwane City while Spurs have dropped to sixth spot.

JDR Starz 1-0 Baroka FC

Baroka FC's mixed form in the league continued after going down 1-0 to promotion-chasing JDR Starz.

Tumi Ngwepe opened his account for the campaign by netting the only goal with ten minutes remaining in the second half.

All Stars 0-0 Black Leopards

All Stars missed the chance to climb up into the top three after playing to a goalless draw with Black Leopards.

The hosts now find themselves in fifth position at the halfway point of the season, while  Leopards sit in 14th spot, one point above the drop zone.

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila 1-2 University of Pretoria

The University of Pretoria ended their seven-game winless run in the league by defeating Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila 2-1.

Samuel Julies opened the scoring from the penalty spot for AmaTuks in the first half, before January aquisition Rodney Ramagalela doubled the lead in the second.

TTM did manage to pull a goal back soon after, but they finished the game with ten men after Sibusiso Fakude was given his marching orders in the closing stages.
