After Platinum Stars beat Bucs in the MTN8 Final on Saturday, Mhlongo alleged that Pirates “nearly ended his career” after the serious knee injury he suffered in 2009.
The 32-year-old defender made some controversial claims, saying Pirates gave him insurance papers to sign “to say it’s over”.
Makaab took to Twitter to criticise the Platinum Stars veteran.
“...sad to read Benson Mhlongo's comments about Pirates...win with integrity Mr Mhlongo, no need to bring up the past...silence is golden,” the former Pirates coach tweeted.
In reply to his followers, the football agent said:
“@Tumzaza3 They may not be wrong, but it was not the time to make such comments.
“@MusaCebekhulu I did not say he should keep quiet, but there is a time and place to say these things.
“@stephmalatjie For the last time I'll say this and it's only my opinion - it's not what he said, it's WHEN he has said it that is not right.”
This morning Makaab added: “My final comment on the Benson matter. He is entitled to publicise his feelings, but surely not when celebrating a famous victory....
“....I would love to hear Pirates' side of the story before forming an opinion.”
