Kinshasa press reports say Mutombo has been locked in a war of words with his own club’s officials after a 0-0 draw at home in the first leg of their African Confederation Cup second round, tie with Uganda's Express FC.
The result means V Club, where Mutombo took over last year shortly after being dismissed by Pirates, face early elimination in next weekend's return leg.
Mutombo has objected strongly to several officials bursting into his change room at half-time of the match against the Ugandans.
The officials wanted to address the players but Mutombo objected to what he saw as an attempt to undermine his role. He has threatened to resign.
V Club, know as the ‘Moscovites’, have offered the job of coach to the Belgian-based Mutombo just weeks after Pirates fired him last September.
V Club, who were African champions 1973, have not won the Congo title for the past four years.
