According to The Post newspaper in Lusaka, Zambian national soccer team medical staff leader Dr. Michael Mbambiko has said Mwanza, who picked a hamstring injury last week on Wednesday, needs enough time to recover from the setback.
Mbambiko said in Lusaka that a final assessment on the player’s injury was done yesterday afternoon.
_quoteMwanza picked up an injury in Zambia’s concluding Group C match against defending champions Egypt.
“He (Mwanza) had a left hamstring tear. I don’t think it is that serious but this kind of injury requires rest. I have advised he rests for three to four weeks,” the medic said.
Mbambiko is confident the defence pillar would be back in action after getting enough rest.
Mwanza was part of the Zambian delegation that arrived from Ghana on Saturday night.
The former Lusaka Dynamos player is expected to leave Zambia for his South African base tomorrow.
