Goalkeeper | Grant Johnson: He was a brilliant shot-stopper, although quite short, but good on the high balls. Very competent keeper with a very great distribution.

Right-back | Mark Davies: A great captain, and also a leader off the field. He might have been not the most skilful of players but he was a machine at running.

Centre-back | Lucas Radebe: A legend of South African football, aggressive in a tackle. Many would say he was lucky to get that tackle in, but he was always well positioned.

Centre-back | Mark Fish: A legend of the game and of South African football. I grew up playing football against him from a young age and he was very competent as a striker too.

Left-back | Bradley Carnell: I grew up playing with him from young age groups. Fantastic left foot, quick, aggressive and very composed on the ball.

Right-wing | Delron Buckley: Extremely quick. Very, very skilful, great crosser of the ball and could also score goals.

Centre-mid | Quinton Fortune: Had a killer pass in him, always played the ball at the right time, was extremely composed in midfield, and also he was a hard worker as well.

Centre-mid | John Moshoeu: Legend of SA football. Had everything a midfielder needed, that's why he managed to play overseas. Fast, skilful, composed, could score goals.

Striker | Benni McCarthy: Probably the greatest South African footballer. A goal-scoring machine, didn't need many chances to score goals, very good in the air for his size.

Striker | Shaun Bartlett: Very good in the air and a very hardworking player and very honest person. A great team player to have. Somebody I held in highest regard.

Left-wing | Clinton Larsen: Clinton Larsen: Probably one of the most skilful players but what I liked about him is that he was very good going forward. As a winger that was vital.

Koumantarakis says the players he has included in his Dream Team were driven by hunger to succeed.
"I think all the players in this group were hungry to achieve," Koumantarakis tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"A lot of them were playing in an era where there wasn't a lot of money involved, a lot of them have actually succeeded in going overseas and making great careers and earning a lot of money.
"But I think it was hunger, they played the game wanting to achieve something. They had a fire inside them that a lot of players nowadays don't have.
"There were some crazy ones, but they were purely hard workers."
