Orlando Pirates may have succumbed to Bidvest Wits in their Nedbank Cup clash on Sunday but supporters at Orlando Stadium were not short of drama and entertainment.

Pirates were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup after a penalty shootout defeat to Wits on Sunday afternoon, as their last chance at cup glory this season came crashing down.

It looked as though coach Josef Zinnbauer's dream unbeaten start to his rein was destined for an abrupt end when The Buccaneers found themselves 2-0 down, after Bienvenu Eva Nga got off the mark in the PSL and Deon Hotto hand the hosts gasping at half-time.

However, Thembinkosi Lorch and Happy Jele quickly restored parity with a quickfire response inside five minutes midway through the second half to send the game into extra-time.

More drama then unfolded when Elias Pelembe was sent-off for dissent towards referee Victor Gomes, after Thulani Hlatshwayo had conceded a penalty, which Zakhele Lepasa slotted home on the stroke of half-time of the first period of extra-time.

But still the thrill a minute action continued, and just when it had seemed Bucs had the tie in the bag, The Clever Boys tipped the tie on its head when Gift Motupa squeezed the ball over the line with seconds remaining on the clock to force a sudden-death shootout.

Both sides then missed two rounds of penalties before the score was tied 2-2, but Kabelo Dlamini scuffed his spot-kick wide of the mark to allow Lorenzo Gordinho to book Wits' spot in the Last 16 with the final kick of the game.
