Ngobeni's Ajax trials postponed

Ngobeni says he was supposed to leave for the trial this past weekend, but would now be heading to Europe on the 15th July.

Although he had earlier confirmed that he had fully recovered from a knee injury suffered at the end of the 2007/08 campaign, he still attributes the recent deferment of the trials to the injury.

Ngobeni is heading to Ajax’s mother club Ajax Amsterdam, where a previous trial could not yield anything, and possibly try his luck in Norway.

“I will now leave for the trial on July 15. The reason behind the postponement is injury,” the Johannesburg-born player says.

He adds that despite the postponement, all is on course for him to travel to Europe.

“Everything else such as paperwork is in order. This time I have high hopes I will definitely go.”

Ngobeni was initially scheduled to attend trials at the beginning of June, but the nagging injury put paid to those plans.

The setback is part of a series of injuries that stalled the highly-rated midfielder’s progress last season.

These include a leg injury and a broken toe, which worsened when a surgery to repair the toe was botched.
