The operation will rule him out for the rest of the season, his club said.
Ntuka, who made his Bafana Bafana debut at the age of 19, has won five caps for South Africa at senior level; the last in the Cosafa Castle Cup mini tournament in Swaziland in May.
It was also his last senior game because Ntuka has not featured for his Belgian club this season.
His horror season began when both Ntuka’s parents died last year and a reported move to English giants Chelsea turned out to be a flight of fantasy.
Ntuka turned up late at Westerlo for the start of the new campaign and has been unable to get into the first team squad.
Also at the Belgian club, Michael Modhubi continues his rehabilitation after injury. He has played just three games this season.
