Caretaker coach Joel Masutha tells snl24.com/kickoff that he attributes the turn around in form to the presence of a priest in the dressing room and heart-to-heart talks he has had with the Lidoda Duvha players.
“To play against Pirates was a difficult task to approach because, besides dealing with the tactics of the game, one has to deal with the mental strength of the players,” Masutha says.
“After losing so many games, they were demoralised and having the pastor in the dressing room at Johannesburg Stadium on Saturday, helped a lot. He delivered a motivational speech to them.
“Apart from that, I have also had one-on-one discussions with each player in an effort to get them to open up and identify where they feel the team needs to improve.
“So far it has been promising in terms of turning things around and the point we got against Pirates yesterday has done a lot to improve the spirit in the team.”
Masuthu says although he has little experience as a coach, he also believes that with home advantage in their next three league games, he is confident that the team will survive in the Premiership next season.
“I have worked with different coaches since I arrived at Black Leopards and I have learnt a lot from them. Boebie Solomons is a very nice guy and taught me some of the finer points of coaching.”
