Pharaohs thrash Indomitable Lions

The Pharaohs goals came via a brace each by Hosny Abd Rabou and Mohamed Zidan, while Samuel Eto’o netted a brace for the Indomitable Lions.

The defending champions threatened from as early as the third minute when Mohamed Shawky shot straight at Cameroon keeper Carlos Kamweni.

Egypt took the lead in the 14th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Andre Bikey handled inside the area, with Hosny slotting home, but Gambian referee Sowe Modou ordered retake and the striker again made no mistake.

Hassan Shehata’s men doubled their lead three minutes later when Zidan slotted home following a superb counter-attack.

The Lions struggled with the pace of the Egyptians and found themselves 3-0 behind seconds before the break when Zidan netted his second goal of the game with a superb left-footed shot from outside the area following a poor clearance by Cameroon skipper Rigobert Song.

Cameroon looked better in the opening stages of the second half and pulled a goal back in the 50th minute when Eto’o headed home a cross by Geremi.

However, Hosny completed his brace in the 82nd minute when he struck with a fierce low drive from outside the area.

Eto’o completed his brace in injury time when Cameroon were awarded a penalty following a foul by Mahmoud Fathallah and the Barcelona striker made no mistake from spot.
