Phiri says while it is true that he has been approached by the Malawian Football Association, the offer was only for a ‘temporary’ position.

“I will only join the Malawian national team in June for the Afcon games and will be back at Free State Stars again next season. I will leave for Malawi as soon as we finish the league to help the national team.

“My contract with Free State Stars runs up until 2010 and so far I have been happy with everything in the team and I have no intention of leaving them.”

Phiri also says that he is happy with the Nedbank Cup draw which pits his team against First Division Mpumalanga Black Aces in the semi finals.

“We have already overcome hurdles to reach the semi finals and will be ready to face Black Aces. They have done well in the tournament and we will not underestimate them.

“It will really be difficult for teams to beat us now. We have all our players back and we can only go forward now because the players have their confidence back.”
