Usuthu made a bright start when Siyathemba Sithebe launched their first shot on target in the opening five minutes.

A cross from the right found Bonginkosi Ntuli who brought it down nicely with good close-control to strike at goal but unfortunately it went wide after eight minutes.

Maritzburg managed to get forward on a few occasions, but lacked the cutting edge to outwit the defensive block from Cavin Johnson’s side.

There was to be a chance coming their way, but the indecisiveness of a certain Yannick Zakri was their undoing with Keletso Makgalwa unable to follow up on 13 minutes.

A chance for Usuthu happened on 28 minutes after Emiliano Tade slide chance for Marc Van Heerden who shot off target.

Enjoying large portion of possession, Usuthu’s Tade was at length to unleash from range but he failed to trouble Richard Ofori.

Just before halftime, Van Heerden whipped in a lovely cross for Tade but the Argentine failed to hit the target once again.

A fast start to the second half ensued as Justice Figareido’s cut inside the box forced a stunning save from Siyabonga Mbatha on 53 minutes.

Usuthu pushed forward in numbers but shots from Sithebe and Bonginkosi Ntuli failed to trouble the defence of the visitors.

Figaredo was becoming too much to bear as he carved open another chance only to draw yet another sterling save off Mbatha on 70 minutes.

Sithebe managed to find space to run at the Maritzburg defence and launched a low shot that dragged wide of the mark.

With five minutes from time, Tade’s curling effort failed to inject any verve nor trouble at Ofori who watched it flew wide of the top right corner as the game ended goalless.
