Absa Premiership match report Baroka v Chippa United 03 February 2019

Baroka coach Wedson Nyirenda once again tinkered with his line-up by making six changes in Orebotse Mongae, Matome Mabeba, Rodwell Chinyegetere, Vusi Sibiya and Thabiso Semenya.

Following a scrappy opening, Gladwin Shitolo sent a close-range header wide of the mark in front on an open net after Rhulani Manzini's powerful free-kick was saved by Elvis Chipezeze.

After an uneventful first half, Chippa went in search of an opening goal in the early stages of the second half as Tercious Malepe forced an impressive save out of Chipezeze with an effort from distance.

Wedson Nyirenda threw on his first change seven minutes into the second half as Tebogo Sodi replaced the ineffective Chinyegetere, a substitution that would renew their energy as the former carved out a couple openings which were not converted.

Another good opening appeared for Baroka off a corner on 58 minutes, but Ranga Chivaviro’s header was palmed away by Mzimela as the home side upped the tempo.

Ten minutes later, there was nothing Mzimela could do to stop Matome Mabeba’s superb curling effort from the top of the box.

Within a few seconds, Chippa had a response after Bonginkosi Makume turned Shitolo’s cross from the right into his own net as parity was restored.

The Chlli Boys pushed for the winner in the last segment of the match, but Chipezeze’s diving save stopped Shitolo in his tracks as the encounter ended 1-1.

As a result, Chippa remain in dangerous territory despite moving one place up to 14th while Baroka find themselves in 13th spot.
