Lerato Lamola should have grabbed the lead for Abafana Bes’thende in the fifth minute after a poor header from Ricardo Nascimento evaded Sundowns goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse inside the box, but the striker failed to score into an empty net.

The Brazilians were trying to establish rhythm by building from the back inside the first quarter of an hour, but Arrows were quick and dangerous on counter-attacks.

Masandawana were over-elaborating on the ball towards the 25th minute hardly entering the final third despite dominating possession.

However, Toni Silva had a chance to break the deadlock for the visitors on the half-hour mark after receiving a cross inside the box but his half-volley hit the side-netting.

Sibusiso Vilakazi almost got the breakthrough for Pitso Mosimane’s charges eight minutes before the break with a low strike having space just inside the box but his effort missed slightly wide.

Lebohang Maboe finally broke the deadlock for Sundowns a minute before halftime with a low strike inside the box against the run of play, 0-1.

Phakamani Mahlambi almost doubled the lead for Masandawana two minutes after the break with a snap shot from just outside the box that sailed inches wide of the target.

Jose Ali Meza had an opportunity to give the visitors a two-goal cushion 20 minutes before time immediately after he came on a substitute, but Abafana Bes’thende shot-stopper Nkosingiphile Gumede got under his strike.

Mosimane’s men were already closing up shop 15 minutes before time, playing with numbers behind the ball and looking for breaks on the counter.

However, the visitors were kept their shape defensively towards the end and managed to hold on for all the three points while Arrows' winless extends to five games.
