Chippa United eased their relegation fears with a vital 3-1 victory over Polokwane City in the penultimate round of the Absa Premiership.

After a lively start, Rhulani Manzini gave the Chilli Boys the lead in the 13th minute following a good attack from the visitors.

However, Rise and Shine were not going to let the Chilli Boys run riot in front of their own supporters as they found the equaliser in the 27th minute thanks to Mohammed Anas.

In a see-saw game, Clinton Larsen’s charges restored their lead six minutes before the break courtesy of Zambian defender Malama, who finished off at the far post.

The Chilli Boys were conservative in the early stages of the second stanza looking for chances on counter-attacks, but on the hour-mark Larsen made a tactical change as Daine Klate came on for Lerato Manzini.

Immediately thereafter, Tercious Malepe gave the Port Elizabeth side a 3-1 lead from a set-peice situation as they looked to kill off any hopes of a Polokwane resgurance.

In an attempt to preserve their two-goal cushion Chippa withdrew striker Rhulani Manzini for Bangali Keita on 74 minutes while Ruzaigh Gamildien came on for Twala to provide fresh legs in attack three minutes later.

Polokwane were unable their usual rhythm going forward and made things easy for the Chilli Boys to defend in the closing stages as the encounter ended 3-1 in favour of the visitors.

Chippa jumped to 13th on the table with 27 points but are only one point above of bottom side Maritzburg United with one match to go while Rise and Shine remain in fifth place with 44 points.
