Ulundi-born Sikhakhane initially joined Pirates from Golden Arrows in August 2016, but found game-time hard to come by at Mayfair.
However, he has enjoyed better fortunes on a series of loan stints at Usuthu, as evidenced by his 14th appearance of the campaign last night in a 2-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld.
Usuthu boss Lunga Sokhela says Sikhakhane wants to stay in Durban.
"We are engaging with Pirates," said Sokhela.
"He has been doing well. He is a local boy and he wants to stay."
AmaZulu are also negotiating with Sundowns for the services of Bongi Ntuli, who is likewise on loan at Cavin Johnson's side.
Ntuli could be traded as part of a swap deal involving Downs target Emiliano Tade.
"We are looking at keeping Ntuli on a permanent basis. So we are in discussions with Sundowns regarding that," Sokhela added.
