Kaizer Chiefs took one step forward towards ending their seven-year trophy drought on Sunday after reaching the semi-final of the 2022 MTN 8 competition by virtue of a 1-1 (4-3) penalty shootout win over Stellenbosch FC.

The Amakhosi have been rewarded for their efforts with a two-legged tie against Kwa-Zulu Natal-based outfit AmaZulu in the last four, a team that impressed in the previous round with a win against Cape Town City FC.

"We are playing against AmaZulu and we all know it's not going to be an easy one," Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane said following the draw on Monday. "They are doing very well at the present moment.

"They have been winning their league games and they are also through to the semi-finals against us, and they have assembled a very good squad with a good coach and technical staff.

"It's going to be two legs that will be very difficult. There are no easy games. These are knockouts so it depends on how we approach it home and away and how they respond, because first we are playing against them in a league game this weekend.

"We are looking forward to the game and we hope that we will do well and go through to the final."
