When Usuthu signed Konqobe in December 2018, the club's general manager Lunga Sokhela showed support for the young defender after his previous issues in his career.

But after the club decided to terminate his contract, Sokhela was very disappointed and felt the player let him down after everything he did for him.

In an exclusive interview with KickOff.com, the 24-year-old opens up about how he ended up leaving the club.

"Well, the general manager Lunga Sokhela and I, we are close and have always been close," says the former Ajax Cape Town star and Amajita captain.

"He's a great manager. He was always there for me and always believed that I could always deliver. I will always appreciate and respect Lunga and the whole team.

"I had no problem with anyone. Me leaving the club was just based on the on-field things. I wouldn't say I had a problem with the coach or anyone but I was not in the coach's plans and we thought maybe it was good to part ways."

Konqobe joined Usuthu when they were doing extremely well under former coach Cavin Johnson, and many thought the centre-back would be a useful addition to his squad, but it was not the case.

The one-time Mamelodu Sundowns target explains what his relationship was with Johnson as there were many questions about why he was not playing even though he had a huge reputation as a youngster.

"My relationship with Coach, I wouldn't say it was good or bad, but every coach has his own plans and I guess I was not in his plans," Konqobe adds.

"So I can't hold that against him because every coach has his own vision and he had his own. I'm glad I've worked with him, a good and experienced coach, and everything happens for a reason."

Konqobe is now playing for Finnish second division side Ekenas IF.
