Former Amajita captain Ayabulela Konqobe has revealed that he was close to joining Kaizer Chiefs but explains why he didn't end up at Naturena.

Konqobe, who was tipped to join Mamelodi Sundowns in 2014 before he went on loan to SuperSport United and AmaZulu, has not yet reached the heights that were expected for his career.

At 24 years old there is still time for the former South Africa under-20 skipper, who was again linked with a move to one of the big three before he rejoined Usuthu in 2018.

The former Chippa United defender says he ran out of patience while waiting for Chiefs to get back to him during Giovanni Solinas' tenure.

"I was training with them [Chiefs] but they were taking too long to prepare my contract," Konqobe tells KickOff.com.

"I then ended up going to Highlands Park too, and they also did the same. Then AmaZulu were quick to put something on the table."

In January this year Konqobe left Steenberg United in the GladAfrica Championship for Finnish side Ekenas IF.

He refuses to rule out a move to Naturena in future but is currently focusing on growing in Europe.

"Hahaha, I'd probably go retire there, but not now!" he adds.
