Bafana permutations for Afcon qualifying

accreditation

Bafana Bafana head Group A with eight points, one ahead of the Congolese with Nigeria on four and Sudan likely out the running on three.

They would have already sealed their ticket to Morocco with a win over Congo on Wednesday night, but now face a number of permutations in their pool ahead of their home clash with Sudan on the weekend of November 15/16.

A win there would seal their place at the continental showpiece, though even a draw could be enough if Congo are held by Nigeria in Pointe Noire.

That would leave Bafana four points ahead of the Super Eagles in third with one game to come and with the top two sides in each pool advancing to the finals, ensure qualification.

A draw and a Congolese win would also seal their place at the continental finals, but should South Africa be held, or lose, it would set up a doomsday scenario in the final round of matches when they must travel to Nigeria on November 19.

Should they be held by the Sudanese and Nigeria win, it would give them a two-point lead over both the Super Eagles and Congo. Defeat in Nigeria and a Congo win in Sudan and Bafana would be out the running.

There is also a scenario where they could lose both their next two games and still qualify.

If Nigeria beat Congo away and the Congolese then only draw in Sudan, both they and South Africa would be level on eight points in second place in the pool, but Bafana would be better placed due to their head-to-head record in the pool.
