Bidvest Wits goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs downplays retirement thoughts

The 36-year-old goalminder has enjoyed a sterling career, in the colours of Cape Town Spurs, Ajax Cape Town, Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits, since making his professional debut back in 1997.

Currently in his second spell with the Clever Boys, Josephs insists he is still enjoying his game and has no intention of hanging up his gloves anytime soon.

"As soon as I see an article that in the media saying 'Moeneeb is slow' then I will know I'm f**ked up," he says jokingly.

"But no, listen man, I'm still enjoying it and I'm sure you can see on the field that I'm still hungry; I'm passionate and I'm fired up.

"And as long as that is the case I will keep playing."

The former Bafana Bafana 'keeper adds that playing at the highest level is key to his desire to continue, and concedes that he will quit when he feels he is no longer giving his best.

"I'm enjoying each and every game, and being able to play at the highest level is very important to me," he adds.

"The minute I know I'm not giving my level best then I will know it's time to throw in the towel."

Wits have recently confirmed the signing of 23-year-old former Ajax Cape Town shotstopper Kyle Peters, who – along with national under-20 goalkeeper Jethren Barr – will keep Jospehs on his toes in the new season.
