Bidvest Wits striker Eleazar Rodgers bemoans SuperSport United slip-up

Thuso Phala made the most of a defensive error from Wits last night with a 67th-minute winner to dent the Students' Absa Premiership title hopes.

“This defeat was in a way self-inflicted and a bitter pill to swallow,” Rodgers tells snl24.com/kickoff.

“A mistake at the back and they score. We could’ve at least come away with a point, you know. But then again we didn’t create a lot of chances.

“I should’ve done better with my header attempt but then again the ball came very quickly. But maybe I should’ve done better I feel.”

With games coming thick and fast, Rodgers believes there’s no point in dwelling on the result.

“Look, it’s not the end of the world,” Rodgers adds. “We have to bounce back straight away. We just have to work harder to get better and to learn as we go along.

“Highlands Park away [on Friday] is not going to be an easy match. In fact there are no easy matches in the PSL. It’s very unpredictable but exciting at the same time. That’s why we love this game.”

The Clever Boys have 45 points from 23 games - four points adrift of pace-setting Cape Town City, but with two matches in hand.
