Phunya Sele Sele unveiled seven new players in front of their supporters on Sunday including former Orlando Pirates winger Khetokwakhe Masuku.
However, they could not seal any deal for Pirates striker Lehlohonolo Majoro because the Buccaneers reportedly want a player in return for the forward.
News reaching snl24.com/kickoff is that the Free State side will look for alternatives but have to navigate carefully in order to protect their own interests.
“The challenge is that when the club starts talking to other teams the subject becomes [Thapelo] Morena as if we don’t want to challenge for League honours,"a source tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"The club is now looking at Mbesuma and also looking at Cuthbert Malajila. Sundowns don’t want to release Malajila but they want Morena. Why then should the club release Morena.”
Mbesuma is currently clubless after John Comitis decided against taking him to his new club Cape Town City. The source adds that signing a free agent isn’t as easy as it seems.
“There’s nothing for free [in SA]. The [transfer] market in South Africa is currently cruel. There’s lots of competition outside,” the source concludes.
When contacted, Celtic media officer Sello Nduna couldn’t confirm nor deny the club’s interest in the two strikers: “I can only confirm that we are in search of a striker."
