According to the statement, the family is grateful for the support and love they've been getting from the country throughout the week.
"The family are most grateful and so overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support received by so many, we deeply saddened by the loss of great husband, father, grandfather, brother, great friend and soccer legend."
"We thank soccer loving fans, the teammates or Arthur, Prosport international, the various PSL clubs, the Amakhosi family and Martzburg United got the beautiful tributes to Arthur, and the various display of support being extended to the family during our time of deep grief."
They then revealed that Bartman sadly succumbed to his battle against meningitis on March 19.
"Arthur was diagnosed with meningitis in November 2018 in Pietermaritzburg and came home to East London in December to recover, he was doing well up until January but suffered a relapse on the 22nd of February."
The family has urged for more awareness and recognition of the battle against meningitis through the display of the burgundy ribbon.
Bartman played for African Wanderers, Kaizer Chiefs, Golden Arrows and Maritzburg United.
