Cavin Johnson questions AmaZulu mentality after heavy defeat to Free State Stars

Usuthu went into the encounter as favourites as they were coming from a convincing win over Bidvest Wits at home, but the loss in the Free State against a struggling side has made the coach question the mentality of the players in the team.

"We were just poor, we gave away three goals, the opponents were not that good, it was us who were just poor on the day," Johnson said.

"We need to look at ourselves and ask if we deserve to be in this league, are we ball boys or professional players? Sometimes we need to let them know the truth."

A frustrated Johnson went on: "Our mentality needs to be checked, these are the same players who were brilliant against Bidvest Wits and today they didn't perform, it's not like they're wearing a mask, it's the same players, we were just poor."

The coach was asked whats needs to be done for Usuthu to sort out their recent inconsistent form, which has put them in danger of not qualifying for the top eight.

"There's nothing we can do besides a change of mindset, we need to use this break for counselling, be honest to each other," he added.
