Hlatshwayo has been plagued by inconsistency this season while also failing to nail down a regular berth.
"Playing for Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates are not the same as there's lots of pressure at Pirates," Chabalala tells KickOff.
"I don't know what Pirates promised Hlatshwayo when they signed him.
"When you join a new team and you are guaranteed game-time you don't show the same hunger.
"You know when you join a new team you must fight for your jersey, nothing comes easy.
"This thing of guaranteed game-time kills you as a player, you tend to relax.
"I don't know maybe being made captain while he was still new in the team made him feel there was no need to fight for his position.
"Every time he gets onto the field it's like he's trying too hard, and by doing that he tends to make mistakes.
"Yes he's a good player, in his case it's three seasons and so far he has not added any value to the team.
"Imagine if supporters were allowed into stadiums, maybe it could have helped his form to pick up or they would have destroyed him.
"He must just relax and find himself first, yes we've won the MTN8 but not that convincingly."
