Chiefs facing stern competition for Sekhukhune target

Amakhosi are believed to be leading the race to sign Maart but are being rivalled for Maart's services by an unnamed club in Qatar.

Maart impressed this season for Babina Noko with his performances leading to a Bafana Bafana call-up to Hugo Broos' national side.

Amakhosi are proposing a possible swap deal during initial negotiations.

In his 28 appearances this season, the 26-year-old contributed three goals with two assists.

"I think his contract with the club has two years remaining," a club source reveals.

"It's also not only Chiefs and the Qatar club showing interest, but many teams.

"It appears likely that he will push for the move to Qatar, as it's still only a few people who know the name of the club.

"When Sekhukhune faced Kaizer Chiefs recently, the Qatar club's scouts were present to watch him, and they were left impressed.

"And the thing is he played very, very well in that game, with a plus being he has now been selected for the Bafana Bafana national team.

"So I'm sure he is going to Qatar, plus like the Qataris, he's Muslim.

"And in that team, there is someone who coached him at an early age in his development back in Cape Town, who is there now working at that team.

"I'm 99% sure he is going to Qatar."
