Chippa United are closing in on the high-profile signing of Mamelodi Sundowns forward Phakamani Mahlambi.

Chilli Boys head coach Gavin Hunt who had previously worked with Mahlambi had extended an offer to sign the former Al Ahly player.

The 23-year-old also recently had an unsuccessful loan stint at AmaZulu FC last season, making only three appearances.

It is still unclear whether the talented player is reported to be joining Chippa on loan or permanently with his contract with his current club, Sundowns, is only expected to run out on June 30, 2023.

Chippa team manager Morgan Mammila could not be reached for comment.

Questioned on the possibility of the player reuniting with his former Bidvest Wits mentor, Mahlambi's agent Glyn Binkin said negotiations have already started.

"We're in discussions at the moment, but nothing has been finalised," he tells KickOff. "Paperwork needs to be finalised."

Binkin further revealed that Chippa were favourites at this stage for Mahlambi's signature while adding that fellow attacker Deolin Mekoa remained without a club.

"We are looking at something at the moment, and we're looking at two options. So hopefully, something will happen this week. I can't say now."
