Chippa United won't renew Ruben Cloete's contract, may offer coaching role

Cloete – who turns 34 in November – has been linked with a possible job in the club’s technical team after club coach Dan Malesela made indications that he foresees a role for him in coaching.

Chippa United CEO Peter Koutroulis says Cloete is not part of the squad this season.

“His contract expired and it was not renewed and he is not at the club anymore be it as a player or member of the technical team. However, I do believe that if he decides to retire he can become a coach,” says Koutroulis.

Cloete spent 18 months with Chippa after joining from Bloemfontein Celtic at the beginning of last year.

He has also played for Santos, Free State Stars, Maritzburg United and had the best times of his career at Orlando Pirates when The Bucs won the treble two years in a row.

Chippa have since signed another two left-backs in Simphiwe Mtsweni and Marc van Heerden.
