Daniel Cardoso: Kaizer Chiefs can win the league

The Phefeni Glamour Boys, with 36 points from 21 matches, are three points shy of log leaders Cape Town City ahead of Saturday's showdown with champions Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium (20h15).

While Sundowns boast games in hand on their title rivals, Cardoso says the Brazilians still have to go out and earn the points.

"Yes, of course we do [stand a chance of winning the league]," says Cardoso.

"Sundowns have games in hand but they are not the points needed. So what we are doing, we are focusing on ourselves and taking each game as it comes."

Chiefs have gained momentum in the league as the season has matured, and are also in the last-16 of the Nedbank Cup.

Cardoso says the players needed time to adjust to coach Steve Komphela, who is in his second year at Naturena following his arrival from Maritzburg United.

"I think everybody started to learn Steve's methods and I think we are gelling well in the camp so far. For us to stay in contention of the Nedbank Cup we need to carry on with our form and take it game by game."
