AmaZulu registered back-to-back wins in the DStv Premiership after defeating Cape Town City 2-1 on Saturday evening.
Gabadinho Mhango and Bonginkosi Ntuli were rewarded for their contributions off the bench against SuperSport United in midweek, while the Citizens brought in an unchanged eleven from Tuesday's defeat to Swallows.
It was a pretty lively opening where chances, albeit half-hearted, came for both teams and through all variations of play though none were utilized.
A darting move right of the area by Augustine Kwem after 20 minutes resulted in a pass for Keagan Buchanan, who forced a fine save out of Hugo Marques.
However, after a rather subdued start, the Citizens went ahead nine minutes before halftime when Khanyisa Mayo finished off an excellent cross by Darwin Gonzalez.
City’s lead lasted just six minutes this as the host rallied back when Kwem charged onto George Maluleka’s penetrative pass towards the far side and dinked over an advancing Marques.

The host turned the match around over five minutes in the second half as Mhango brought a surging ball under control and drilled into the far corner from an acute angle.
City coach Eric Tinkler looked to the bench after 60 minutes played and on came Thamsanqa Mkhize for Kajally Drammeh and Mduduzi Mdantsane ahead of Brice Ambina.
None of the arrivals steered the Citizens to a comeback despite the effort and this allowed Usuthu to pick runs off-the-ball and most notably time in possession.
AmaZulu turned to the bench too and gave former Kaizer Chiefs defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele his debut along with Bafana Bafana midfielder Ethan Brooks.
The Citizens' evening got worse in the dying minutes after Mpho Makola got his marching orders for dangerous play just minutes after he had stung the gloves of Veli Mothwa.
In the end, Usuthu picked up their second win in a row and left the Citizens to three defeats on the bounce.
