AmaZulu collected their first win under Romain Folz after seeing off Stellenbosch FC 1-0 in a DStv Premiership clash on Sunday afternoon.

Young Msindisi Ndlovu received his maiden start for Usuthu this season and Makhehlene Makhaula returned from suspension, while Ibraheem Jabaar, Jayden Adams and Devon Titus returned for Stellies.

After a decent start, Usuthu very nearly fell behind midway following the second half through a smart opportunity from Sinethemba Mngomezulu though he was denied by Veli Mothwa.

Romain Folz’s boys steadied around ahead of the 30th minute spell and were ahead after a splendid effort from Zambian Rally Bwalya that left Sage Stephens with no chance.

Usuthu decided to bring on a change four minutes thereafter, as Bafana Bafana international Ethan Brooks made way for former Kaizer Chiefs forward Dumisani Zuma.

The Maroons finished the half strong where a header from Mngomezulu brought a fine save out of Mothwa, as the hosts went into the break leading.

Stellenbosch entered the second period with a substitution all in an effort to get back on level terms, as Titus vacated duty for Antonio Van Wyk.

Usuthu looked to stabilise their strong-hold and momentum early on from the resumption in the way of a free-kick by Riaan Hanamub off Mngomezulu’s foul, but it didn’t materialize.

The host were close to a second with 20 minutes to go where clever play saw Bwalya deliver a cross to Thembela Sikhakhane to head home, but Stephens responded and parried for a corner.

Usuthu found it upon themselves to manage the remaining exchanges of the match and in the end bagged their first win under Folz.
