DStv Premiership match report Baroka v Stellenbosch 10 March 2021

Baroka started with Joslin Kamatuka and Evidence Makgopa up top, whereas Stellies started Alan Robertson back from suspension on the bench and Leletu Skelem too.

As the match began to open up, heavy thundershowers set in and as a consequence led to the suspension of the match due to safety concerns.

The contest resumed and Stellies nearly went in front from a defensive error by Bakgaga midway through the first half, but Bonginkosi Makume recovered in time to thwart Stanley Dimgba.

Baroka didn’t let the wasted opportunity go unpunished before the half-hour mark, but made the visitors pay through a smart finish from Kgodiso Monama.

It didn’t last long though as Stellies levelled from an equally clever strike by Dimgba after meeting a telling ball from captain Mogamad De Goede.

The overhaul came five minutes to halftime with a finish from Ashley Du Preez after he met an assist from Dean Van Rooyen.

Bakgaga as expected made a buoyant start to the second half with a free-kick from a promising area, but goalkeeper Sage Stephens rushed from his line to scupper the attempt.

Steve Barker looked to consolidate matters 63 minutes in on the side of Stellenbosch, as Dimgba made way for Granwald Scott.

Baroka lived on the ropes towards the closing stages after Du Preez closed in on a brace with a half-volley before Ibrahim Jaabar threatened with a solo effort.

The third came in the dying minutes courtesy of a snappy finish from substitute Phathutshedzo Nange to see his side jump ahead of Baroka in ninth spot.
