Marumo Gallants missed the chance to move off the foot of the DStv Premiership table after drawing 2-2 with Cape Town City on Tuesday night.
Mduduzi Mdantsane made his 100th appearance for City, who had captain Thamsanqa Mkhize back from suspension though missed Thato Mokeke following an accumulation of yellow cards.
The skipper looked to set the ball in motion a little to ten minutes from the start where he played a first-time pass in the box before having the delivery cleared.
City evidently made their dominant opening period count around the middle of the first half after Khanyisa Mayo found space outside the area and volleyed in.
Bahlabane Ba Ntwa didn’t sit back but responded swiftly on the half-hour mark when Lesiba Nku towered in the six-yard area and headed beyond Darren Keet.
The boys of Eric Tinkler looked to regain their lead before the halftime interval and were close through a header by Mkhize from Mayo’s cross, but Washington Arubi produced a fine stop.
Although, the host eventually regained their advantage over six minutes from the resumption after Mayo delivered a sumptuous free-kick beyond the wall and past Arubi.
Marumo rallied and pulled level within the midway quarter of the second period with a tellingly worked finish by forward Ranga Chivaviro.
The tempo became lively as the match headed towards the closing exchanges and had both outfits gunning for the winner through fierce offensive movements.
Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho came on for City in the last five minutes as he replaced Mkhize in a bid to shore up things.
With the match firmly balanced and either side going for the win, both settled for a point and left Gallants fight against the drop all the more difficult.
