SuperSport United defeated Cape Town City 1-0 to move to second on the DStv Premiership standings on Tuesday evening.

After finding the winner from the bench against Royal AM, the host rewarded Thabo Nodada and started Juan Zapata whereas United missed Thulani Hlatshwayo but had Zukile Kewuti on the bench.

Khanyisa Mayo got a huge chance on five minutes and snapped a half-volley on the turn wide of the far side after the visitors defended with their backs to goal and couldn’t thwart a long ball.

Thatayaone Ditlhokwe battled to continue for the Tshwane outfit nine minutes ahead of the halftime period from a challenge with goalkeeper Darren Keet and had to make way for Siyabonga Nhlapo.

SuperSport very nearly went ahead in the closing four minutes of the half from a drive outside the six-yard area by Grant Margeman, but Keet parried.

That missed chance were almost punished by City after a flick on off a corner by Taariq Fielies hit the woodwork before Thamsanqa Mkhize tucked the follow-up in the side-netting.

Mayo wasn’t able to carry on playing following the second stanza and was withdrawn for Kajally Drammeh as the match remained compact.

City enjoyed an encouraging opening to the resumption from balls into the area worked largely by Lyle Lakay, but United cleared and kept matters all square.

The visitors started to charge forward through the latter period of the second half with Thapelo Maseko, Bradley Grobler and Margeman pinning City in their own half.
