Cape Town City left it late to register a 1-0 victory over TS Galaxy in the DStv Premiership on Friday evening.

Lyle Lakay, Thato Mokeke, Brice Ambina, Thabo Nodada and Darwin Gonzalez came in as City’s changes after the 1-1 draw at Chippa United.

City didn’t have problems getting into advanced areas just after the start and threatened the opener when Gonzalez headed over from a floated ball left of the six-yard area.

The host piled more bodies forward in the quest of a breakthrough though the penetrative runs by Bertrand Mani, captain Thamsanqa Mkhize and Gonzalez failed to unlock the Rockets.

Galaxy enjoyed the earlier momentum of the second half and should’ve taken the lead when a curler from a tight angle by Bernard Parker forced a fine save from City goalkeeper Darren Keet.

At the other end, City provided a shot in anger too when Juan Zapata cut inside and opened an angle to bring a stern save out of the Galaxy shot-stopper Vasilije Kolak.

Sead Ramovic’s side continued to have the lion share of chances in the second half, with Xola Mlambo heading over from the near post following Parker’s corner-kick.

City, though, were closest to the breakthrough midway in the second half as a curling free-kick outside the area by Lakay struck the underside of the crossbar and rolled back into play.

The Citizens continued to surge forward and were rewarded three minutes from time when Taariq Fielies tucked in at the far post after Kolak could only palm Mani's header.

Galaxy looked to draw level in the final exchanges with a few short-passing patterns around City’s defensive-third, but weren’t able to breakthrough as Eric Tinkler's charges held out for maximum points and leapfrogged Orlando Pirates into sixth spot.
