Cape Town City failed to register back-to-back wins in the DStv Premiership after drawing 1-1 draw against Chippa United on Saturday evening.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho made his debut for City, who also recalled Marc Van Heerden and Mpho Makola after the win over Orlando Pirates.

After a slow opening, the Chilli Boys trailed in the midway stage of the first half when a snap shot from a tight angle wide of the area by Brice Ambina saw Justice Chabalala turn into his own net.

The Citizens were close to doubling their lead around the break with a rasping effort outside the area by Bertrand Mani, but goalkeeper Loydt Kazapua parried the Cameroonian's effort.

Chippa made a double change on 40 minutes in, with Etiosa Ighodaro introduced for Diego Appollis before Siphelele Luthuli slotted in for Andile Mbenyane.

This alteration paid off a minute before the break this after Ighodaro rose high and unchallenged in the area to head into the bottom-corner to level matters.

There was not a lot of penetrative play around the offensive area in the early stages of the second half and the balance of the encounter thus remained tight and compact.

City very nearly stole the victory with a first-time shot by Darwin Gonzalez following a through pass, but Kazapua produced remarkable reflexes and saw Chabalala hoof the follow-up.

Gonzalez made another charge towards target when the attacker sold one challenge and cut inside to curl towards the bottom-corner, but Kazapua parried again.

At the other end, City goalkeeper Darren Keet made a superb point-blank stop on the goal-line as he denied Sirgio Kammies close-range finish from Luthuli’s square ball.

The contest still had chances going the way of either side, but neither were able to profit as the spoils were shared in the end.
