Chippa United returned to winning ways in the DStv Premiership with a 1-0 victory over Maritzburg United on Sunday afternoon.
There were two returnees for Chippa in Trevor Mathiane and Ayabulela Konqobe, while Maritzburg named their match winner against Golden Arrows- Jose Ali Meza on the bench.
Chippa did have the strongest of starts and could’ve gone ahead from a smart attempt by Etiosa Ighodaro, but a double save from Renaldo Leaner denied the forward.
The Team of Choice came alive before the half-hour mark and witnessed Rowan Human overcome a few challenges to go clear and worked Loydt Kazapua to a save.
It still saw the away outfit a few minutes gone ask questions of their host where Amadou Soukouna brought a looping ball in his stride before he brought Kazapua to work.
Konqobe was removed at the start of the second half for none other than Brooklyn Poggenpoel before Zuko Mdunyelwa was tasked to make way for Sirgio Kammies.
Chippa, though, made their presence felt ten minutes from the break when the on-form Ighodaro pounced on a delivery by Azola Ntsabo to beat Leaner for his sixth of the season.
A little earlier the Team of Choice could’ve opened matters themselves from a clear one-on-one opportunity by Karim Kimvuidi, but the forceful attacker missed target.
Chippa weathered the storm for the duration of the match and picked up a crucial win to go as high as sixth on the table with Maritzburg in 13th position.
